Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
